IXTAPA ISLAND TOUR

...this is a must.
Out of the hotels zone, not far away from the shore, this site is special to snorkel in the coral reefs, diving, or just swimming in the crystal clear water. The Island has three main beaches different one to each other, but both are going to make you spend a memorable day of relax and fun.
To go to Ixtapa Island, you can take a taxi all the way down to Playa Linda where is easy to locate the pier where the water taxis will drop you off at the island; the cost of a taxi from Zihuatanejo to Playa Linda, is about 65 pesos (7 US). If you are not in a hurry, or if you are in a budget, you can take a bus in downtown in Morelos Avenue in front of the "Tienda Elektra", going to Playa Linda. The bus will cost you 5 pesos per person and they take you to Playa Linda too, where they turn around and come back to town.
Water taxis charge 30 pesos (3 US more or less) per person a round trip. Beware of the return time, because the last panga comes back at 5 p.m. and you won't want to spend a night in mosquitoes paradise!

BARRA DE POTOSI ECOLOGICAL TOUR

This place is out of the town, too.
Consist in a small (very small) fishermen village, "ramadas" where you can ask for your favorite fresh fish any style octopus or oysters, the lagoon and its connection to the open sea.
You can rent a panga to make bird watching in the mangroves by yourself, but there is some guys that make organized tours there, showing you all interesting spots. In high season, there is a light plane for rent with a certified captain that will take you up to the heights, where you can admire this enchanting place.
The transportation to get there is the same as for to go to Ixtapa Island, but going to the south; if you want to go by taxi, the price that you will be asked to pay is going to be between the 300 to 500 pesos (30-50 US) depending on if you want a round trip or just a one way trip. If you want to go by bus, you have to comply with the idea of spending at least, one - one and a half hour to get there. There is a bus station in downtown behind the food market or central market, which final destination is "Petatlan". You will have to get off at "Los Achotes" and then, take a truck to Barra de Potosi, which is a distance near to the 15 kilometers. Fortunately, the half of that road is now paved, but the other half is a kind of rustic road. You can enjoy that ride! remember that you are knowing our real Mexico!

FIESTA MEXICANA!

Wednesday is the Fiesta Mexicana night at Barcelo Hotel, in Ixtapa, and some seasons, Dorado Hotel and Pacifica Resort also offer this big fiesta. Check with your hotel staff. They gladly will help you to find out the current hotels offering this event.
Try the delicious Mexican Food, while listening the Mariachis and looking the folkloric dancers that will take you to a ride for all our Mexican States representative dances.

FISHING TRIPS

Sailfish is the pre-eminent big catch, along with blue and black marlin, dorado (mahi-mahi), and yellow fin tuna; smaller species like barracuda, grouper, rooster fish, Spanish mackerel, and Wahoo can be found in our sea, too.
Tag and release is a promoted policy for most fishermen and authorities in town.

SCUBA DIVING AND SNORKELING SPECIAL TRIPS

The Zihuatanejo Scuba Center can arrange these trips. They also organize night dives for underwater still and video photography.
This scuba center has a full certified human team, headed by Juan Barnard, a Marine Biologist. He is one of the most knowledgeable persons in town about the area's scuba sites, which range from shallow reefs to submerged shipwrecks to canyons 100 feet below the surface.
